In the first T20 International match between New Zealand and Pakistan on January 12, 2024, New Zealand secured a convincing 46-run victory. Daryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson played pivotal roles, each scoring brisk half-centuries. Mitchell's explosive 61 off 27 balls and Williamson's composed 57 off 42 propelled New Zealand to a record total of 226 for eight, the highest-ever against Pakistan in T20 internationals.

Chasing a challenging target of 227, Pakistan's hopes relied on Babar Azam, who contributed 57 runs. However, when Azam fell in the 16th over, Pakistan's chances dwindled, and they were eventually bowled out for 180 in 18 overs. Tim Southee played a crucial role, taking four wickets for 25 runs, becoming the first bowler to achieve 150 wickets in T20 Internationals.

Despite facing challenges, Kane Williamson, returning after a knee injury, showcased resilience, reaching his 18th T20 half-century. Finn Allen's aggressive start set the tone, and Mitchell's explosive innings accelerated the scoring. New Zealand's middle-order partnerships, particularly between Williamson and Glenn Phillips, provided a solid platform.

In the bowling department, Abbas Afridi impressed on debut, finishing with three wickets for 34 runs. Pakistan's explosive start, featuring Saim Ayub's quick 27, was tempered by run-outs and well-executed catches by the New Zealand team.
