Pankaj Udhas, the veteran Ghazal maestro, has sadly passed away at the age of 72 after battling a prolonged illness, as confirmed by his family on February 26. The renowned singer breathed his last at 11 AM in Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. Reports suggest he had been diagnosed with cancer a few months prior and had been keeping a low profile since then.

The news of Udhas' demise was shared by his family, who released a statement expressing their profound sorrow. "With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February due to a prolonged illness," the statement read.

The funeral rites for the ghazal icon are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 27.
