Rahul Gandhi voiced reservations about Congress leaders attending the January 22 Ram temple consecration, citing BJP and RSS's politicization. He accused them of transforming the ceremony into a "political event" revolving around Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gandhi, during a press conference in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, emphasized the challenging decision, following the Congress leadership's recent decline of the invitation to the Ayodhya event.

Describing the consecration as politically driven by the BJP and RSS, Gandhi expressed reluctance, asserting it had acquired an election-oriented tone. He stated, "It is difficult for us to attend the Ram temple consecration ceremony when our principal opponents, the BJP and the RSS, have captured the function and turned it into an election event."
