Shamar Joseph's debut for West Indies in the Test match against Australia in Adelaide proved to be a dream come true. Hailing from the tiny village of Baracara in Guyana with a population of only 350, Joseph became the first person from his village to represent West Indies in a Test match. His remarkable debut continued as he scored the highest-ever score by a West Indies No.11 on debut, contributing 36 runs, including a six off Josh Hazlewood.

However, the pinnacle of Joseph's debut came when he became the 23rd player in Test history, and the second from West Indies, to take a wicket with his first ball. The prized wicket was none other than the renowned Steven Smith. Joseph's strategic delivery exploited what he perceived as a weakness in Smith's game, triggering an edge that was caught by fellow debutant Justin Greaves at third slip. Overwhelmed with joy, Joseph expressed his intention to capture the moment with a photograph and share it proudly in his home.

Joseph's impact continued as he bowled consistently at speeds around 140kph, creating immense pressure on Australian batsmen Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne. He secured his second Test wicket by dismissing Labuschagne with a well-executed bouncer.
