Ulajh Review: Intriguing Story And Twists With Strong Acting By Janhvi Kapoor
Suhana is appointed as India's youngest Deputy High Commissioner, but faces allegations of nepotism.
Ulajh revolves around a young and talented girl Suhana Bhatia (Janhvi Kapoor) who hails from an influential diplomatic family. Her grandfather's name is even mentioned in school books. Suhana is appointed as India's youngest Deputy High Commissioner, but faces allegations of nepotism. The story also touches upon an issue that is related to Janhvi's real life, where she has been facing criticism for her privilege.
Storyline
Suhana has recently come out of a relationship and is working in London. There she meets a flirtatious and charming chef Nakul (Gulshan Devaiah), who charms her instantly. But slowly problems start to emerge. Nakul is actually a corporate blackmailer, and Suhana gets caught in a difficult situation. She has to decide whether she will save her father's job and honour, her own reputation, or the country's darkest secrets. There are many twists in the story, and it becomes difficult for the audience to guess the next turn.
Positive Points
Janhvi's acting is very impressive in the film. In a particular scene, she confronts a minister in front of her superiors, which impresses the audience. The first half of the film moves at a very fast pace and leaves the audience stunned. Apart from this, the film also highlights issues like nepotism and discrimination against women at the workplace.

Negative Points
However, the film tries to focus on many issues, which can make the story seem a bit confusing. The second half moves quickly, which can sometimes leave the audience confused. Some events, like two characters fleeing from London to India without a trace, seem a bit unnatural.

Overall Verdict
With director Sudhanshu Saria, Janhvi dominates every scene. Her helplessness is similar to her previous characters. The message of the film is that nepotism does not mean a lack of talent. The scenes of Suhana's revenge and the shots showing Janhvi's acting ability reflect what the writers have tried. Ulajh makes the audience think, but its complexity and pace prevent it from being completely impactful.
